Dominic Gascoigne, Garden Designer Dominic Gascoigne

Having been lucky enough to be brought up in a house with a large garden and a father and grandparents with a love and enjoyment for gardening it was not surprising that I ended up designing gardens and landscapes for a living.

For as long as I can remember I have been interested in the way things look and how they fit together and on leaving school with various O and A levels I got jobs with several landscaping firms, labouring, planting, creating and maintaining gardens.

While working in the office of a busy central London landscaping firm in 1990 the in-house designer left. I was asked to step in until a replacement was found. After a couple of weeks the replacement arrived – I had the design bug and resigned, determined to expand my design horizons.

I enrolled on a full time one year course at The Inchbald Design School studying Garden Design. I knew when things looked good but needed to know why. I was taught the fundamental design principles of why they did – it was a cathartic moment. Being lectured by some of the preeminent designers and plantsmen of their generation was a privilege and a joy.

After graduating from The Inchbald I secured a job as the garden designer for a specialist garden centre in Sussex. It allowed me to gain greater knowledge of plants, one of the disciplines that tend to be missing in many designers at present, as well as the opportunity to work in some exceptional gardens in the South East.

After 9 months I moved to the Wrexham area after getting engaged. I applied for and got a job in the newly set-up design department at Bridgemere Garden World. Again it was a perfect place to acquire greater plant knowledge as well as put down roots, so to speak, in the area.

After 18 months I bit the bullet, handed in my notice and set up in practice as a freelance Garden and Landscape Designer. That was in early 1994.

Since then I have been designing gardens, large and small and everything in between, doing my best to create comfy, practical and memorable gardens for my clients. I work with architects and interior designers as well as developers and estate managers on many projects to enable exacting clients get what they want. I work primarily in the North West of England but have designed gardens in the West of Scotland, the West Country, East Anglia, London and many points in-between.

Let me help you realize your dreams and aspirations.
